![]() Non-Union Casting Call Bodega De la Sol - A Radio Play Written by Janelle Lawrence (They/Them) Directed by Antonio Miniño (They/Them) Bodega De la Sol is a four-part bilingual audio play premiering April 2021, as part of Braata Productions’ Caribbean in Queens Radio Play Series. At Bodega De la Sol, COVID hasn’t stopped the doors from opening; which keeps the Sol family somewhere in between safety and illusion. With four generations of Dominicans in New York in one home, the diversity of realities becomes blaringly loud when you have to sit with each other & live with big personalities. Quick Project Info Genres: Caribbean Series Project Length: Four episodes, each 20-30 minutes Deadline: February 18, 2021 Rehearsals: Early March, 2021 Location: Remote (Mics will be provided) Compensation: $100 for the series Contact: braataproductions@gmail.com CONTENT WARNING This story features high emotional situations and explores dealing and coping with COVID in New York at the height of the pandemic. RECORDING DETAILS All actors must be at least 18 years of age and willing to sign a recording agreement. Recording will take place remotely, potentially over Zoom. Actors must have a strong internet connection for best audio quality. Interested actors must send their audition sides in the form of a voice recording via email by 11:59pm EST on Wednesday, February 18, 2021. No previous voice acting experience is required. Rehearsal and recording will occur in early March, 2021 (times TBA). AUDITION DIRECTIONS Record 2-3 takes of the side for the role you’re interested in, using the recording setup you would use for the show. Make sure to slate your name, pronouns, role you are reading for, and take number. Include all of the takes in one mp3 file. If you are auditioning for more than one character create a separate mp3 file for each. Ella dice que no se siente segura. Creo que está realmente preocupada. (Beat) I don’t even believe they will close the school. They didn’t even close the schools the day after 9/11. La ciudad nunca duerme, that's in its name!” English Only Speaking Roles: “Her and her friends are really starting to upset my Mom. She calls me to tell me she's leaving to the D.R. tomorrow and to find her a ticket. She says she doesn't feel safe. I think she's really worried. (Beat) I don’t even believe they will close the school. They didn’t even close the schools the day after 9/11. The city never sleeps, that's in its name!” AVAILABLE ROLES Cass: (Femme identifying; Mid 20’s Dominican) – Millennial, actor by day, family therapist/herbalist/scapegoat. Audacious and soft on the inside. Family is important, but not top priority. [English & Spanish speaking role] Mama: (Femme identifying; Late 40’s Dominican) – Head Chief in charge. She likes to have control of her house and her family. She is manipulative to get her way, in a loving Dominican mothery way. [English & Spanish speaking role] Char: (Femme identifying; Early 30’s Dominican) – Head honcho in charge, but not really in charge of much. Strong, Assertive, and trying to be seen as an individual. [English & Spanish speaking role] Abuela: (Femme identifying, early 70’s Dominican) – De la isla y llena de es0s caminos (y tradiciones). Ella ya no ama casi nada de Nueva York, ahora teme todo. [Habla Español] Brother: (Masculine identifying; 16 year old Dominican) – He’s a high school junior who usually likes to chill with his 2 best friends at the park, on the subway, and at his father’s Bodega. The only other man in the house. Simultaneously lifted up in the family, while kind of invisible. [English speaking role] Edwardo: (Masculine identifying; Early 50’s Dominican) – Works at a Bodega, loves his family, works throughout the Pandemic.
